Domestic Material Innovation and LNG Valve Applications Progress, Valve Industry Advances Steadily

Recent developments in China’s valve industry show tangible progress in both corrosion-resistant materials and key equipment for LNG carriers.

In anti-corrosion coatings, graphene-modified heavy-duty coatings developed by domestic companies have entered small-batch production. Laboratory tests show salt spray resistance exceeding 6,000 hours, surpassing national standards.

If mass-produced, this technology could offer a cost-effective alternative to stainless steel and special alloy valves, potentially impacting valve selection in marine, chemical and municipal sectors.

In LNG carrier cryogenic valves, the first domestically built LNG carrier fully equipped with Chinese-made cryogenic valves in its cargo system was delivered in May. A large LNG carrier uses over a thousand cryogenic valves for cargo handling, reliquefaction and fuel supply.

Previously reliant on imports, this real-ship application confirms that domestic cryogenic valves have passed operational validation in sealing, low-temperature performance and vessel motion adaptability, marking a shift from design verification to batch installation.
